Psych Parents Peer Supervision Group

About the event

The Psych Parents Peer Supervision Groups are aimed at supporting mental health professionals  their transition to parenthood by providing a space where psychologists can:

Share their experience of parenthood as parents and mental health professionals, including the challenges and benefits.

Explore different psychological perspectives and topics from the lens of a psychologist and reflect on how this plays out in their role as parent. This includes but is not limited to, attachment theory, emotional regulation and discipline.

Connect with their needs as parents and mental health professionals and explore how to bring self-care and self-compassion into our professional and personal life.

Explore how their experience of parenthood shapes the work they do as a mental health professional.

How long do the groups run for?

Historically sessions have run for 60 mins. This session will run from 60-90 minutes depending on the needs of the group.

How many people can attend?

Groups are capped at 10 participants so to provide ample time and opportunity for all participants to share and reflect on their experiences and professional practice. Groups need minimum of 4 people to proceed and events will be cancelled three days before the event if this minimum number is not achieved.

What type of professionals can attend?

Psychologists, counsellors, provisional psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, speech therapists and other allied health workers.

I haven’t been to a group yet, can I still attend?

Yes, this group is open to new and returning Psych Parents.

How structured are the groups?

At the start of the session, all participants will be invited to co-create an agenda for the meeting. Agenda items could be ethical issues, questions about putting theory into practice, questions about different therapies or presenting issues, work-life balance discussions, and reflective case discussions.

Do you have a schedule for future groups in 2024?

I will be trialling an ad hoc roster in 2024 where I will only be booking one session in advance.

Will sessions be recorded?

To protect the privacy of attendees, sessions will not be recorded.

What happens if I cannot attend on the day?

There are no refunds for non-attendance.
